Dr. Tarik Shounia is a board-certified dentist and currently serves as a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. He brings extensive academic, clinical, and public health experience to his role in dental education and patient care.

Dr. Shounia earned his Bachelor of Dental Surgery from the University of Baghdad and later completed a Master of Science degree at the University of London. He went on to earn his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Detroit Mercy, further solidifying his clinical expertise in dentistry.

His primary areas of interest include Pediatric Preventive Dentistry and Dental Public Health. Dr. Shounia has mentored numerous dental students in research initiatives, contributing to more than 60 research papers and poster presentations.

In addition to his academic and research work, Dr. Shounia is deeply committed to community service. He actively serves underserved populations through the University of Detroit Mercy’s Mobile Dental Van, helping provide essential dental care to underprivileged communities.
